Bodegas Muriel

Thanks to its proud winemaking tradition, the village of Elciego is one of the most famous of the Rioja Alavesa region, rich in the wisdom gained from centuries of wine production. Winemaking here dates from the nineteenth century, with many of the same practices still in use today. On the outskirts of Elciego, close to the river Mayor, stands an extensive cellar complex: Bodegas Muriel, one of the hallmarks of wine in the area. The gentle, terraced slopes have been carefully carved and honed by generations of farmers, creating a miniature world completely devoted to the vine. Clay and limestone soils combined with the region’s uniquely balanced climate hold the key to this range of deeply expressive wines.
