Heraclio Alfaro

A pioneer of aviation, Heraclio Alfaro was an aeronautical engineer who designed and piloted airplanes at the beginning of the 20th century. His entrepreneurial spirit is the inspiration behind this Rioja. The Heraclio Alfaro vineyards grow on the Estarijo estate, land that was an airfield over 100 years ago; the old runway area is now the vineyard, while the winery’s buildings once served as aircraft hangars. Heraclio Alfaro is located in Rioja Oriental, one of the most interesting Spanish regions for modern and innovative winemaking. Rioja Oriental falls on the Mediterranean side of the mountains, where Garnacha is dominant, and the climate and soils of this land render it a source of exceptional singular wines.
